The frame is made entirely of aluminum and was designed especially for a fast setup that goes easy on the material. The various components are bolted together without making any drill- holes. For optimal load transfer, the pillar must be ballasted or bolted to the bottom beam at 4 points.

Three modules are bolted down vertically and 8 modules side by side. Thus, a power performance of 6 kW is reached both on the roof and floor frame respectively. If the 3E Container is delivered with the wind turbine, 3 PV modules must be removed and replaced with aluminum sheets due to the anchoring of the wind turbine. Thus, the performance of the roof rack is reduced by 0.75 kW.

The wind turbine is anchored directly to the 3E Container and requires no foundation and can be erected via a cable winch. Due to the very solid construction, the wind turbine is suitable for inland and storm areas and delivered optionally with different repeller diameters from 2.30 to 6.40 meters.

The power plant of the wind turbine system follows a simple logic: Fewer rotating components reduce the mechanical load and increase the technical operating life. The maintenance and servicing is reduced (including less wear parts, no gearbox oil change) and the operating costs fall. The rotor hub and permanent magnet generator are directly connected as a fixed unit without gears. The rotor unit is mounted on a rotating axis with a high-strength material. In comparison with conventional gearing systems with numerous bearings in the moving drive train the wind turbine operates with two relatively slow running rolling-contact bearings. The wind turbine system is manufactured to the highest standards to achieve a technical operating life of 20 years or more. Particular attention must be drawn to its excellent start-up behaviour (at wind speeds as low as 2.2 m/s) and very quiet operation. Therefore, the system can also be installed in residential areas.

On reaching maximum power output, the wind turbine goes into the helicopter-type rotor-blade protection position, reducing exposition of the blade area to wind. In addition, the control electronics in the control cabinet monitor system voltage and slow the wind energy system down by means of braking resistances (6.0 - 12.0 kW) when maximum voltage is reached. This option has clear advantages over a generator short-circuit as the repeller's rotating movement is not actually interrupted. This ultimately improves the wind energy system's overall level of efficiency. By way of option, the wind turbine is also available with slip rings for power dissipation and no-maintenance azimuth bearings with double ball bearing.

Depending on the local conditions and the design of the 3E Container different diesel generators are used. Focus for selecting aggregates is a long service life in combination with long maintenance intervals, as well as the integration into the control unit of the 3E Container.

Technologically, the inverter is the most important component of a 3E Container. It converts the co-current flow generated in the photovoltaic and/or wind power plant into grid- compliant alternating current. As an intelligent system manager, the stand-alone inverter also monitors the photovoltaic and wind power plant, the diesel generator, the battery and provides a communication interface to operate and control the system in real time. The water treatment plant will be integrated optionally with a master controller.

The controller receives and stores current readings and transmits data via RS485. This means you can stay updated on the status of your plant around the clock. In the event of a problem, you can react quickly and secure the output. Via a GSM modem all parameters can be changed using a web browser and a variety of measured values can be depicted, analyzed and downloaded. You can also be notified by email or SMS in case of error messages. The control unit is perfectly customized for stand-alone solutions. The system is flexible and can be extended. The control system has a high efficiency and a low self-consumption.

The batteries are stationary, fused-electrolyte, valve regulated lead-acid batteries. Due to the structure of valve regulated batteries, these batteries maintenance-free relating to re-filling of water. The usage of positive tubular plates offer an extreme high cycling life. This is achieved by the active materials complete protection by polyester bags. The range is optimal for application in sectors with high  charge  and  discharge  operation  load  like  solar  and  off-grid  applications.  The design in
Accordance with DIN 40742 gives highest compatibility for exchanging existing battery systems or integration in case of enlargement of already existing battery systems. The batteries have a cycling expectancy of up to 1600 cycles with 80% depth of discharge.


The recommended operating temperature range for lead-acid batteries is 10°C to 30°C. The ideal operating temperature range is 20°C ± 5K. Higher temperatures will reduce battery service life. The technical data supplied applies to the nominal temperature of 20°C. Lower temperatures reduce the available capacity. The maximum temperature of 55ºC must not be exceeded. Continuous operating temperatures exceeding45ºC are to be avoided. Within the operating temperature range of 15°C to 25°C, temperature-related adjustment of the charge voltage is not necessary. To avoid leakage currents keep the battery clean and dry. Plastic battery components, in particular the cell containers, must only be cleaned with pure water. At least every 6 months the following data must be measured and recorded: The battery voltage, the voltage of a few selected cells/monobloc batteries, the surface temperature of a few selected cells/monobloc batteries and the temperature in the battery room.

A climatic chamber, including a single-split air conditioner, is always installed in the 3E Container where the batteries and the control unit are located. The climatic chamber allows a constant ambient temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. This ambient temperature ensures the smooth operation of the system and extends the life expectancy of the control unit and especially that of the heat-sensitive lead gel batteries.

The climatic chamber is accessible through a lockable door to be opened only for maintenance operations. This closed space minimizes the pollution through the exterior environment. The air conditioning unit has very low energy consumption, which is also supported by the natural climate of the PV roof.
